DECATUR, Ga. (April 22, 2013) — Seven Hens, Atlanta’s only restaurant dedicated to the art of chicken schnitzel, recently obtained its beer license. Owner Michael Gurevich is proud to introduce a beer-pairing menu that matches local, craft beers with Seven Hens’ international schnitzel menu. Gurevich enlisted the assistance of local beer expert and blogger Ale Sharpton – whose blog, “Cruisin’ for a Brewsin’”, was nominated in 2012 as Drink Blog of the Year by SAVEUR magazine – to ensure that the selected beers complement the globally inspired flavors of the of the restaurant’s seven signature schnitzel sandwiches.

Being that Seven Hens uses only all-natural Georgia local chicken for their signature schnitzel, Gurevich and Sharpton focused primarily on local breweries. Two beers from Wild Heaven Craft Beers located in Decatur, GA are featured on the list. Red Hare Brewing Company in Marietta and Terrapin Beer Company in Athens also made the list. Another Southern brewery, Westbrook Brewing Company in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina and a Wisconsin brewery, Leinenkugel Brewery, complete the selections.

Gurevich explains, “Schnitzel and beer are a perfect pairing. With the craft beer movement growing so rapidly and Georgia’s micro-brew options increasing, I felt this was a great way to enhance the schnitzel experience for my guests.”

While the flavors of the schnitzel span the globe from “The American” featuring Cajun-style seasoning, BBQ sauce and classic American coleslaw to “The Chinese” featuring traditional panko, Chinese mayo and teriyaki glaze, the beers were selected by style not country. “It would have been too easy to pair each schnitzel with a beer from the same country, so we challenged ourselves to find local beers that complement the flavors of each schnitzel creation,” said Gurevich.

Sharpton suggests the following pairings: Ode to Mercy, Imperial Brown Ale from Wild Heaven Craft Beers with “The American”; Hopsecutioner India Pale Ale from Terrapin Beer Company with “The Mexican”; Sunset Wheat Belgian-style Witbier from Leinenkugel Brewery with “The French”; Long Day Lager Bohemian-style pilsner from Red Hare Brewing Company with “The Italian”; Terrapin Rye Pale Ale from Terrapin Beer Company with “The Chinese”; White Thai which is a twist on the classic Belgian Witbier style from Westbrook Brewing Company with “The Indian”; and Invocation Belgian-style Golden Ale from Wild Heaven Craft Beers with “The German.” As with anything else, taste is subjective and both Gurevich and Sharpton encourage guests to find their own favorite pairing. As a tribute to the celebrated tradition of great American breweries, Pabst Blue Ribbon – an American icon – is on the list as a familiar option that pairs well with any of the signature schnitzels.

With a new year come new eats. In the Atlanta area, schnitzel restaurant Seven Hens continues its culinary journey around the world with its latest seasonal sandwich. The Thai debuts on Thursday, January 17, and celebrates the marriage of age-old European cooking methods and Southeast Asian traditions. Through culinary creativity, aromatic components blend to create a spicy twist on the beloved, golden-brown schnitzel.

Available for a limited time only, The Thai adds a boost of flavor to the traditional chicken-cutlet sandwich with Asian slaw, which consists of crunchy cabbage, onion and carrot mix in sesame oil, soy, Thai basil and roasted sesame seeds over Seven Hens’ original Thai sauce of coconut milk, red curry, lime and a touch of garlic. Served with authentic Thai seasoning, this schnitzel is sure to awaken the taste buds.

We’re honored by the awesome review under “Must Eats” on, Waiting for Martha.

The first was completely new to me, and new to Atlanta, 7 Hens. 7 Hens is a schnitzel shop located in Decatur. Schnitzel being an age-old technique of thinly pounding the chicken breast, dipping it in egg batter and coating it with seasoned breadcrumbs. The 7 in 7 Hens refers to the 7 different flavor combinations you can have like the American, Mexican, Indian, etc. All of their chicken is local and delivered daily, made fresh to order.

Now most of you know I don’t eat meat, so here is the beauty of 7 Hens. You can get any schnitzel made with tofu. And having recently moved from Chicago I’ve found that Atlanta is seriously lacking in vegetarian options so I was brimming with excitement to try tofu schnitzel. Let me tell you it was amazing. The Mr. had the chicken schnitzel Mexican style and I had the tofu schnitzel Indian style. So delish! My only complaint is that 7 Hens isn’t closer to where we live because I would be going there all the time. Love!

I got to meet owner Michael Gurevich, an Israeli residing in Atlanta, who knew he had to carve out a new space in the Atlanta food scene when he opening Seven Hens. Gurevich wanted to take this street food staple from his culture, marry it with the best flavors from different countries, and serve it up to Atlantans in a style that speaks to the heart of Georgians across the land – frieeeeddd chicken.”

Thanks so much Lauren from My Lil Foodies for the awesome coverage! Here are some highlights we loved:

“Parents will appreciate the delicious spin on fried chicken, since the seven unique breading flavors and toppings are a great way to push your Little Foodies past the typical fried chicken envelope. Think of it as subliminal advertising for your little one’s palate. After time, they might be open to more interesting, ethnic offerings.”

“…our favorite was the deceptively delicious Indian, which incorporates a mild curry in the breadcrumbs, and is topped with a refreshing cucumber salad and curried yogurt sauce. ”
